Trying to Enjoy Green Beans and Sugar Snap Peas – The Plan

These were not the vegetables I was planning to buy this week. I knew that the grocery stores were a little nuts but I thought I had come up with a very smart plan. I decided we would shop at Sprouts (a farmers market type grocery store), because we mostly needed fruit and vegetables anyway, and surely people aren’t stocking up on fresh produce.

Apparently, they are.

The vegetable section had been ransacked. There were a few bits and pieces here and there, including a bunch of herbs and a whole lot of turnips. I did get one of the last remaining cucumbers, but the rest of my vegetables are pictured above. The veggie/ranch tray was the only way to get carrots and broccoli so I went for it, and my husband tolerates green beans so I decided to get those too.

The fruit section was looking much better, maybe because it doesn’t keep as well (though you would think, following this logic, the lettuce may still have been plentiful). Apples keep for at least a couple of weeks so I got a few.

There were no eggs, so we went to Ralph’s since it was the closest place that might have them, and got one of their last cartons.

I’m just glad we have enough toilet paper to last for the next few weeks. We always get a giant pack whenever we go to Costco which lasts us nearly 3 months.

Green Beans

I am pretty sure I’ve only ever eaten green beans steamed. I never really hated them, just found them boring and the texture was kind of weird.

I have a whole bag so I will probably try them multiple ways. I think just about any vegetable tastes good roasted, but I may also try steaming them and adding some kind of flavor to them.

Sugar Snap Peas

I honestly can’t say whether I’ve ever actually tried these or not. I kind of filed them away in my mind as something I don’t like, maybe because I don’t really like peas in general. Since some came in my veggie tray, it’s time to give them a proper try.

I’ll probably try them raw, but otherwise I’ll put them in a stir fry most likely. Or I’ll add them to fried rice.
