Trying to Enjoy Green Beans and Sugar Snap Peas – Results

This is a follow up to my earlier post.

Green Beans

I read that you can roast green beans in the oven and make them crispy so that they are like french fries. I did not expect them to taste exactly like fries, but I did expect them to get crispy and they did not.

The first time, I thought maybe I had cooked them for too long. I put them in a 425 F degree oven for about 15 minutes, using online recipes as guidelines. The beans were very soft, far from crispy, though they didn’t taste too bad and my husband ate his without a complaint.

The second time (pictured) I cooked them for a few minutes less. I also added some panko and parmesan as a recipe suggested. This time, I think the beans may have been just a little undercooked.

Am I supposed to just cook them past the soft stage and then they magically get crispy? That does not seem likely. Maybe I will try a higher oven temperature in future.

Sugar Snap Peas

I though these were pretty decent. I tried one raw, which didn’t taste bad but it was a bit tough. So then I cooked the rest in a stir fry with a bunch of other vegetables. The taste, to me, is similar to snow pea sprouts, which my mother used to buy sometimes. That makes sense of course, since sugar snap peas are similar to snow peas. By this logic, I can probably assume I will also tolerate eating snow peas.

Summary

Green beans are still boring to me. I probably just need to work out the best way to cook them. Sugar snap peas, on the other hand, are actually alright. I mean, I probably would not sit and eat a whole bowl of them, but I can see myself including them in stir fries.
