GERD Elimination Diet – Day 2

Breakfast

I ate oats for breakfast again, this time with more oat milk and less cashew butter (I think there was too much yesterday, in terms of both taste and fat content). About a tablespoon is, I find, an appropriate amount for a normal serving of oats (half a cup dry). I topped my oats with mango this morning. I think I prefer berries, but I ran out of raspberries yesterday and mango was the only frozen fruit I could buy when I last went grocery shopping. The mango itself is delicious, just perhaps not an ideal accompaniment for oats.

This amounted to around 400 calories.

Lunch

Lunch today was good. I ate leftover turkey meatballs from last night, with brown rice mixed with celery, carrot, spinach, coleslaw mix and parsley. I still ate a snack in the afternoon but it was around 3:30 rather than an hour after lunch like yesterday.

This meal was about 440 calories.

Dinner

I baked mahi mahi for dinner tonight, seasoned with salt and dill. I accompanied it with roasted asparagus and carrots and some brown rice. The fish tasted good; dill is pretty awesome.

Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to get some quinoa or soba, otherwise I’ll be eating a lot of brown rice over the next few weeks! I actually don’t mind it too much though; I’d just prefer a bit of variety.

This was nearly 400 calories, though as you can see it’s a pretty decently sized meal and I was surprised it wasn’t more. (Yes, I weigh/measure my food and account for cooking oil.)

Snack

I ate an apple and a pear fruit cup this afternoon. I had intended to buy cans of fruit in water but couldn’t get any; the fruit cups were the best option I could find. This snack was about 160 calories.

Macros

According to the Fitbit app, my split today was 54% carbs, 26% fat and 20% protein. Much better than yesterday. Still, I ate under 1400 calories, and although I don’t feel like I’m starving myself, I do think that’s very low. Possibly the proton pump inhibitors are making me less hungry. I do feel that they make my stomach feel kind of full for longer, though I still get hunger overlapping that feeling in some weird way. We’ll see if I have more of an appetite after I’m off them next week.
